Spain Accelerates Towards Energy System Sustainability: The Energy Efficiency Revolution with TED Order 268/24

With the recent publication of Order TED 268/24 by the Ministry for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge (MITERD), the country commits to a significant increase in its energy savings targets, from 2,374 GWh in 2023 to 4,361 GWh in 2024

  • This order not only highlights an 83% increase in energy savings targets but also a 10% increase in the financial equivalence to promote efficiency through the National Energy Efficiency Fund (FNEE), placing energy efficiency at the heart of national energy policy.
  • Energy Saving Certificates (ESCs) emerge as a central tool in this strategy, enabling companies such as Bettergy to contribute significantly to the country’s energy savings.
  • The forecast points to an exponential growth in the use of ESCOs, with a savings target expected to reach 90% by 2026. This approach not only reflects the MITERD’s commitment to RECs but also underlines the savings and efficiency potential that still remains to be unlocked in the Spanish energy sector.

Bettergy is positioned not only as a key player but also as a potential leader in the transition to a green economy. Looking ahead, the sector is poised for a dynamic evolution, with projections indicating a significant increase in savings targets to 9,420 GWh by 2026. This outlook promises abundant opportunities and challenges for #innovation, which our company has been working on for years, and constant adaptation to new market trends.

At a decisive moment for energy efficiency in Spain, Bettergy, acting as a Delegated Subject, is in a privileged position to lead the change towards a more sustainable future.

Bettergy currently manages certificates for major industrial and commercial clients and has developed one of the leading digital platforms for the management of CAEs, based on the EnergySequence platform: https://caes.bettergy.es/.

Energy efficiency, more than ever, is a fertile field for innovation, commitment and leadership in Spain’s ecological transition.
