Improved Lighting in Port Areas

Port of Malaga; energy audit service and pre-engineering of the exterior lighting project.

The Port of Malaga is a logistic enclave, with more than 1,100,000 m2 of extension, entrance and exit of goods to the province, as well as an important passenger terminal for both regular routes and Melilla and cruises with the rest of the world.

Given its extension, the project carried out aims to improve the lighting in all areas of the Port, as well as to evaluate its energy efficiency.

The Port of Malaga is made up of a multitude of spaces of very varied typology, including roads, unloading areas, auctions, warehouses, promenades, etc. However, the age and complexity of the installations means that the quality of the lighting has deteriorated and is deficient in some places.

Likewise, the trends in monitoring and control of energy consumption that are currently required in installations necessarily imply an update of systems that are more than 20 years old, which do not allow the identification of energy performance in different areas, which prevents the application of continuous improvement and cost reduction.

Bettergy, as specialists in energy efficiency engineering and technological consultancy, has evaluated the outdoor lighting installations in terms of efficiency, light quality and monitoring and control capacity, with the aim of adapting them to the existing regulations.

Thus, a light measurement of the more than 50 existing zones and various electrical measurements of the electrical panels present in the enclosure were carried out, identifying the energy consumption of the associated circuits.

With the audit and the design engineering carried out, Bettergy has proposed an action that involves an investment of more than 1 million euros for the renovation and updating of the lighting equipment, as well as the design and definition of the energy monitoring and control systems so that the Port of Malaga can, among other actions, modify the lighting levels according to the changing needs of each area.
