Algorithms for synthesis of electricity consumption curves from heterogeneous data sources

ENERGY PROFILER, hereinafter ENERGYPRO, presents a technology aimed at energy marketing companies with an impact on different areas of their business, such as significantly improving their customer acquisition process, building customer loyalty, optimizing energy purchase costs, as well as allowing them to have new revenue streams through the offer of new value-added services based on energy efficiency.

With the ENERGYPRO functionality we have tried to give a new approach to the data processing methodology, so that, through the development of new algorithms, a complete consumption profile of sufficient resolution can be created from the available data, whatever they may be. For example, basic consumption information, such as invoices, to which all additional information can be added to enrich this profile.

  • Asset data: Location, surface area, business activity, type of installations…
  • Similar” consumption profiles.
  • Independent variables, for example, climatic data.
  • Operation schedules.
  • Etc.

In short, ENERGYPRO consists of the development of a load curve synthesis/profiling algorithm to improve the capabilities of the energy efficiency measures engine of the EnergySequence platform to issue personalized recommendations, as well as to carry out the measurement and verification of project savings.

Note that load curve profiles are consumed by other processes in addition to the evaluation of energy savings measures, such as energy purchasing, as well as their application to customer segmentation, or the creation of commercial tariffs linked to savings opportunities.

In addition, the ENERGYPRO project pursues several OBJECTIVES:

To develop a technology for profile synthesis that will create a standardized and representative consumption curve for that consumer from all available information relative to the point of consumption.

Specific objectives:
  1. To have a competitive advantage over other less personalized analyses.
  2. Increased ability to generate and implement new measures, recommendations and services immediately.
  3. Simplification of the code, which implies a reduction in the cost of maintaining the service.
  4. Offering new services, such as prediction or forecasting. Moving from analysis based on historical data to predictive analytics.
  5. Inventory of already integrated data sources (PVGIS, SIPS, ESSIOS) and new ones.

From a market perspective, the ENERGY PROFILER project aims to add value to the marketers’ business in different areas. The technology developed, namely the creation of consumption profiles, we understand that it has a wide range of applications, and in this section we want to illustrate more concretely the application scenarios that support its technical and commercial viability in terms of results.

  • Evaluate energy efficiency measures when no load curve is available. Create load curve profiles from aggregated consumption data (e.g. bills) and other data sources.
  • Making customized energy supply offers to potential customers.
  • Improve the accuracy of energy efficiency recommendations based on bill data.
  • Monitoring savings and profitability after implementing an energy efficiency recommendation.
  • Identification of those customers or potential customers who have implemented the PV measure with a competitor.
  • Identification of customers or potential customers who have implemented the IVE measure with a competitor
  • Profiling applied to forecasting and aggregation of future consumption demand (next day or long term) taking into account the implementation of energy saving measures.
